My Dear Church Family
For some of you this is old news, especially if you came to worship services this morning, August 2nd, but I want to insure that as many people as possible know what is going on.
I am resigning as Pastor of FBC, effective August 30, 2015. It is not because something is wrong. It is because something is right.
My prayer, for some time, has been ‘God, how do you want to use me in the “latter years” of my life?’ As an answer to that prayer God has presented me with an opportunity to join the North American Mission Board as a fully funded Missionary attached to the State Convention of Baptists in Indiana. I will be responsible for the health of 55+ churches in Western Indiana.
At this point the Weeks family has no intention of moving anywhere. That may change in the coming months, however, as we get a feel for what is best for the ministry God has called us to.
I feel so honored to have First Baptist Church as my “sending” church. While I will need to move my church membership in the coming months my heart will remain here at FBCNV. How can it not? In 14½ years roots grow deeply. Annie was baptized here. All of my children graduated from high school here and Emily was married in our church building. This is our home; but God calls us elsewhere and we will go.
I am convinced that God’s plan for First Baptist is in place and functioning. When God said, “I know the plans that I have for you plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future” He wanted us to know if we keep our eyes on Him we will not just survive we will THRIVE!
In the coming days the Enemy will try to worm his way into the hearts and minds of God’s Church. We only need to do what God says to stop that. Seek God, Serve Others and Share Hope. Love God and keep your eyes on Christ. Love one another, because ‘by this all men will know that you are my disciples’. And continue to ‘make every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit.’
I love you,
In Christ – Because of Christ,
